Aftab Amin Poonawalla killed his live-in partner, chopped her into 35 pieces and scattered the body parts across Delhi. Five months after committing the crime, he has been arrested.
This incident would have sent shivers down our spines had it happened anywhere in the world. However, it happened in the national capital Delhi. A predator who, believe it or balk, was also a lover to a 27-year-old woman, killed her, chopped her into 35 pieces and scattered the body parts across Delhi.
Five months after he committed the barbaric act, the man has been held.
Police identified the accused as Aftab Amin Poonawalla. He had been in a live-in relationship with the victim, 27-year-old Shraddha. During questioning, Poonawalla revealed that Shraddha had been pressuring him to get married. They would frequently quarrel about it.
Following an argument on May 18, Poonawalla strangled his partner. He then dismembered her body with a sharp weapon and bought a fridge to store the chopped up parts. Over the next 16 days, he would go out in the dead of night and dispose of the pieces at various locations around Delhi.
The victim's father, Vikas Madan, had lodged an FIR for the kidnapping of his daughter at the Mehrauli police station in Delhi on November 8. In his complaint, Vikas stated that he lives with his family in Maharashtra's Palghar. His daughter Shraddha worked at a call centre in Mumbai, where she met Poonawalla.
